Meet Nina

About Nina Godlewski

Nina’s first experience with teaching was a baptism by fire.  As a graduate student, she was handed a textbook and assigned two sections of Introductory Statistics.  It was an immediate love affair with explaining mathematics to students who weren’t too keen to learn it!  After earning her MBA and PhD, Nina continued teaching quantitative analysis courses to graduate and undergraduate business students for 15 years.

Nina’s career took a turn when her daughters were in elementary and middle school.  The principal at girls’ school asked her to work with a group of students who were struggling in math.  This experience was extremely rewarding and shaped the next 25 years.

Her family relocated to Tucson in 2001.  Nina secured a position at a charter school teaching mathematics to students in sixth grade through high school while she went back to school to earn her teaching certificate.  She joined the Amphitheater family in 2007 at Canyon del Oro High School and remained there until her retirement this past June.

Nina was an active member of the Amphitheater community, serving as Math Department Chair at CDO and Treasurer of the Amphi Education Association.  She served on a multitude of committees, including Secondary Curriculum, Portrait of a Graduate, Amphitheater Teacher and 301 Performance Evaluation System, and the district Meet and Confer, which is the negotiation process to determine working conditions, benefits, and compensation for all staff.  She has been a strong voice for students and teachers in the district throughout her tenure.   She was also recognized as a Circle K High School Teacher of the Year finalist while at CDO and the Teacher of the Year at Academy of Math and Science.

Nina has the drive to continue giving back to her profession.  After over 30 years in  education, she understands how thoughtful governance, strong partnerships and respect for educators lead to student success.  The Amphitheater School District already demonstrates excellent student learning and outcomes, and her goal as a school board member will be to sustain and strengthen what is working, while planning responsibly for the future. Her background has prepared her to bring both educational expertise and data-driven decision-making skills to the board, analyze financial and academic outcomes, and focus on long-term success for our students and community.

Nina hopes to be a strong voice of the district’s staff and students on the Amphitheater School Board.
